The Beatles

When I was little, I watched Sesame Street. Supposedly, there was a song called “Letter B”, to the tune of “Let It Be”. I have no recollection of this.

When my brother was in grade 1, his teacher taught them “Octopus’ Garden”. I thought it was a kids’ song.

I don’t really remember when George died, but I think I knew my mom was sad about it.

The Monkees

When I was about thirteen, I started to like The Monkees. I hated The Beatles because they were more popular than the Monkees and they didn’t deserve that because the Monkees were so much better than them.

One day, I downloaded “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band / With a Little Help from My Friends” on WinMX. And… I liked it. I listened to it a lot. So then I downloaded some more songs, and then I was hooked.

It’s occurred to me that the reason I chose that particular song was most likely because of the Monkees, and more specifically, Peter Tork’s introduction of Mike Nesmith on Live 1967.

You’re such a lovely audience, we’d love to take you home with us, we’d love to take you home! I don’t really wanna stop the show, but I thought you might like to know, that the singer’s gonna sing a song, and the man’s name is Mike Nesmith!

My favourite Beatle

My favourite was George. Probably because he was a brown-eyed skinny guitarist like my favourite Monkee, Mike Nesmith. Also he has adorable eyebrows, and he was always my mom’s favourite. And he was “The Quiet One”, and people always seem to think I’m quiet. Also, John and Paul are too popular, and Ringo is Ringo.

The movies

I think A Hard Day’s Night was my first Beatles film. I think I rented it from a video store. I didn’t understand a lot of the words that they said. I felt like I was watching Coronation Street.

I want to say Magical Mystery Tour was my next Beatles film. I loved it, because I love strange things. The strip club scene was awkward.

Help! is clearly the best Beatles movie. It is in colour, they have an awesome house, they all look adorable, there is a story, it is quotable, George is Georgey.

I’m not crazy about Yellow Submarine. It has a few clever jokes in it, but it’s not really the Beatles.

Let it Be is Let it Be. Does anyone like that one?

The girls

Pattie is my favourite Beatle girlfriend because she is adorable and has great hair and clothes and she was married to George. Jane is my second favourite because her hair is the best colour ever.

People who don’t like Yoko are shitty. She didn’t break up the Beatles; the Beatles broke up the Beatles. John loved her. Go do one.

I don’t really know what that means for sure. But yeah.

The music

“Blue Jay Way” was my favourite song for a while. Also “Long Long Long”. Also “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)” and “I Will”.

“Savoy Truffle” was never my favourite song, but I like how George sings “cool cherry cream”, so my website is named that. I wish it wasn’t because it’s too long to type and it sounds pornish.

The Beatles (the White Album) is my favourite album. Beatles for Sale is my least favourite album. I think it only has like one George song, so that’s probably why.
