1×5 “Twice in a Lifetime”

  • Date Watched: September 8, 2021

A woman wants to decide which man she should marry.
Javier wants Elena.

Josh: I can’t change the fact that I’m not Indian.

Oh man, it’s a good thing they didn’t do this fantasy on the original series, or else this episode would have turned out very differently.

Elena: Semantics won’t get you as far here as they will in the courtroom.

Mr. Roarke was all about semantics though (“in a harem” vs “have a harem”; “most celebrated horsewoman of all time”).

There aren’t any pretty Lilac Bungalow keys on this Fantasy Island. :(

That lei is not nearly big enough for a wedding.

Javier’s fantasy is reminding me a bit of 1×2 “Return to Fantasy Island”, which is not a good thing.

It’s just occurred to me that the original series didn’t have a beach set, and there were rarely beach scenes… which is weird, considering they were on a tropical island. Apparently, in the ’80s, people preferred to hang out in a tiki bar than on a beach.

Elena: This was your fantasy?

At first, I was going to complain about this, because Mr. Roarke always knew what the guests’ true fantasy was, even if they lied to him… except when it came to Helena, who was in love with Roarke too. So this is actually very consistent with the original series.
