George Maharis wants the perfect woman, so Roarke brings him Aphrodite.
A woman wants to understand why chicks dig jerks.
It always bothers me when the first guest off the plane isn’t the first story title in the episode title.
Roarke: My dear friends, I am Mr. Roarke, your host.
Friends?!
[Jennifer Griffin walks by.]
Ross Hayden [clearly way older than Jennifer]: Hello beautiful little girl.
Me: Eww.
Jennifer Griffin: Ross Hayden! What are you doing here?
Me: Oh, she knows him, I guess that’s oka —
[She kisses him.]
Me: Eww.
She’s 24, so, I mean, she is an adult, but he’s 37, and 24 is younger than me, so 24 is still too young for this guy.
The look of the bungalows is definitely evolving, and they’re starting to look more like the later season bungalows.
We’ve got a ~magic object~ … and an “I must warn you”! The writer of this story has my number.
This Minnie chick is gonna turn out to be Aphrodite… right?
People on this show should not be allowed to take drugs unless Roarke and Tattoo are present, because otherwise, the special effects are lame.
This scene is just unbelievable. Melanie walks into the tiki restaurant, and everyone in the place literally stops what they’re doing to look at her. She walks up to the stage and just starts dancing. And her sister doesn’t recognize her at all.
It seems like a really bad idea to have daggers on the walls of the bungalows on Fantasy Island.
The keys to the bungalows have these cute little keychains, d’awww!
The Aphrodite fantasy feels familiar to me, but I’m not sure if I saw it before or not.
Alan Blair: We’re going back to the Fantasy Island Hotel.
I mean, I guess it’s fair to call it a hotel. The main house and the bungalows and the tiki restaurant and the dock and the waterfall, that’s just a very small part of the island, and I guess you need some way to refer to this area.
Hey, Marcia has played characters named Jennifer twice now. Well, the other character was technically a Jenny, but still.
Tasso [to Aphrodite]: You belong to the professor.
Roarke: How long have you been in love with professor Blair, Miss Hayden?
Umm, is that not her fantasy? Shouldn’t you guys have discussed this already?
Whh… why is Roarke holding a bird?
Aphrodite’s all “I am not a fantasy! I am Aphrodite! Know my power!” and then a lightning bolt comes out of the sky, and Roarke catches it. I guess she was trying to hurt him, because then Roarke’s like “You see, professor, your fantasy has no power to hurt me.” And Aphrodite’s a goddess, so that means Roarke is at least as powerful as a goddess. So that’s… something.
Alan pulls Minnie up just before she falls to her death, and Minnie immediately says “oh, I love you!” which just felt like an inappropriate reaction.
Waaah, they’ve got this still image of Roarke’s eyes, and this whole sequence is just… just.
Wah! And we get a “your fantasy is over”. We haven’t had that line in awhile.
Roarke: Where did it all begin? This hatred that can explode so violently against a man like Ross, who would exploit and harm women?
Umm… I think any decent person would hate someone like Ross? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Melanie.
This is the kind of pose you do before two character kiss. This is awkward.
- Ominous Roarke:
- Roarke: Perfection is not a human quality… which is why the professor’s fantasy may threaten both his sanity… and his life.
- Roarke’s drink: clearish yellow
- Ominous shot of Roarke raising his drink: absolutely, and the music is ominous and everything
- Surprise guests:
- Ross Hayden, Jennifer Griffin’s boyfriend
- Minnie Hale, Alan Blair’s ex-fiancĂ©e
- Magic object:
- Roarke: When Robert Louis Stevenson wrote this novel [Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde] nearly a hundred years ago, it was considered melodramatic fiction, but some legends say it is true, and based on the secret confession of a close friend of Stevenson’s, a Dr. Henry Lanyon. This is the potion described in the real Dr. Lanyon’s notes. This is the one that — supposedly — transformed the real Dr. Lanyon into a Mr. Hyde.
- Recurring phrases:
- Roarke: I must warn you, should you decide to take the potion, you must drink two drops at a time, and two drops only.
- Roarke: It’s over, Melanie. Your fantasy is over.
- Minnie Hale: Thank you, Mr. Roarke.
Roarke: You’re very welcome indeed.
- Leaving with an extra guest: Alan Blair with new/old girlfriend Minnie Hale
- Someone else had a fantasy:
- Minnie Hale: I have a confession to make. This wasn’t just a coincidence. My fantasy was getting you back again.
