3×09 “The Dancer/Nobody’s There”

  • Rating: 3; 4 out of 5

An unrefined Texas dude is in love with ballerina Carol Lynley.
A clumsy woman wants to be a detective, and she ends up in “Monkee See, Monkee Die”… again.

I’m kind of intrigued by the title “Nobody’s There”, because I have no idea what that could be about.

WTF! No opening scene again!?

I thought the missing opening scene was gonna be a one-off, because the last episode ran long or something. I don’t like this. They don’t even have the stock “good morning, boss” / “good morning, Tattoo” scene like they do in season 6. This is very disappointing. I live for the opening scenes.

Carol Lynley! I always like when the recurring guests like her or Audrey Landers show up. Dick Sargent… he’s the second Darrin, right? Boo.

I hate that CTV has faked the widescreen for all these episodes. It makes it easier to make GIFs, but some shots are just clearly cutoff and wrong.

A clumsy detective; didn’t we have this exact same episode with Mr. Furley in 1×11 “Trouble, My Lovely”?

Roarke: I must interject at this moment that, um, that both you ladies should realize that the closer you get to finding the possible murderer, the more your lives… will be in danger.

Come on, why can’t you just say “I must warn you”?

Off-topic, but Roarke had a parrot in his office in season 7, right? And at the time, I was like that’s weird, I don’t like it. But now, I like it, because that parrot was probably Pepper, and now that Tattoo isn’t there to care for her, it makes sense to put her in Roarke’s office.

When the cowboy is first introduced to the lady, he doesn’t say anything, and I was thinking oh, that Roarke is clever; he took away the cowboy’s ability to speak so he wouldn’t say anything stupid. But then he spoke and ruined it.

This show uses too many different houses as filming locations. Although I think this one is Camberly Manor again… yep. And the location for it is in IMDb, so I don’t need to waste my evening trying to find it. Phew.

There are so many episodes that are just “Monkee See, Monkee Die”.

Ooh, I think this is the first appearance of the Fantasy Island Theatre exterior. I remember seeing that same shot many times when I was watching this on TV.

Hahaha omg. Thunder and lightning, the lights have gone out, and the telephone line has been cut. No, guys, that wasn’t a gunshot — it was probably just a car backfiring.

I think “Monkee See, Monkee Die” is actually the most popular fantasy, followed by reviving vaudeville, and then the Red Baron.

I am absolutely putting a painting like this in my house one day. And a secret room behind a bookcase.

It’s always the first person to die that turns out to be the bad guy, same as 1×13 “Reunion”. I knew I didn’t like that Darrin.

Now the detective chick is fighting Darrin with karate, which is basically the same thing that happened in 2×20 “Ghostbreaker” — and in the same room too.

I know it won’t happen, but it would be neat if they had another episode later on with the young ballerina having her own fantasy. It would be cool to take a minor character in one episode and have them be a major character in another episode.

lol Carol Lynley suddenly developed a Texan accent in the last scene.

There were no shenanigans in the final scene either, so that’s disappointing, but this was a pretty good episode anyway.

  • Tattoo has no faith:
    • Tattoo: Boss, something tell me that the cowboy and the lady are gonna mix like oil and water.
  • Roarke’s drink: clearish yellow
  • Someone else had a fantasy:
    • Betty Foster: And you think someone on board that yacht for the party killed him.
Contessa Christina Kastronova: Yes. And my fantasy is to find out which one.
  • Locations:
    • Blackcliff Manor
    • Fantasy Island Theatre
  • He’s dead, Jim: Algernon Pepperhill is murdered (but not really; he faked his death).
  • Meddling Roarke: Valeska De Marco is about to leave the island, but Tattoo and Jake Farley block the way with a tank. Roarke claims it’s part of a guest’s fantasy.
  • Leaving with an extra guest:
    • Betty Foster with new boss/boyfriend Dickie Devereaux
    • Jake Farley with new girlfriend Valeska De Marco
